Summer’s come to an end, and we’re knee-deep in fall fashion. But right now all I can think about is the perfect purse for an upcoming destination wedding in Anguilla this November. And I’ve found it – the St Louis Tote by Goyard. I’m not alone. This go-to can be see all around the globe on celebrities and fashionable girls. Many have several styles and several colors (the Kardashian clan is in double digits by my count). Gwyneth monogrammed hers “G.K.P.M”, which I assume stands for ‘Gwyneth Kate Paltrow Martin’. Diane Kruger stops traffic with yellow and red stripes, and Nicky Hilton has a trifecta of red, yellow and green with her initials. Monogrammed or not, the St Louis is a chic beach bag, carry-on, diaper bag, gym bag, and commuter go-to. I’m currently dreaming about the white one Cameron Diaz wore in “What Happens in Vegas” – among others.
And because my fashion operations always come with a twist, Goyards are hard to come by. Sold by select Barneys (in stores only) and a few Bergdorfs (same); your best bet is to visit (or call) the only US Goyard boutique, located in San Fransisco. eBay is another option, but be wary of fakes. The only remaining question is, do I want white à la Nicole; light blue à la Gwyenth; bright blue à la Kendall; orange à la Kris; yellow Kim and Kourtney; or black à la Hilary? Decisions!!
Happy Canada Day! And Independence Day Eve Eve EVE. In celebration I’m profiling my three favorite colors of denim right now. As much as I live in my JBrand black skinny jeans, spring and summer is a time to lighten (and brighten) things up. I bought these rag & bone “crimson” jeans a few weeks ago (Lauren Conrad’s a fan!), and every time I wear them I’m stopped with complements. Sarah Jessica Parker lead this trend earlier this year, and it keeps on going…
I also love white jeans year-round. To mix things up from a skinny leg, wear flares with summer espadrilles or wedges. And in honor of the 4th of July – JBrand’s “cobalt” blue skinnies are a hit with Kim Kardashian, and top my wish-list. Let the bright-festive long-weekend festivities BEGIN.
My love of all-things orange is no secret. Here’s another way to wear it – color blocking and all!
I have five weddings in the next five months (not one is in the US…). They kick off this weekend in my homeland’s capital city, Ottawa (6.11!!). Above is my outfit for wedding 1.0. Inspired by Gucci’s spring/summer 2011 collection of bright color blocking green, orange, and purple – and celebrities like Kim K and Jessica Alba owning this trend – I bought the above pairing at Zara. The high-waisted “skirt with slit” is such a deep tangerine, it almost looks red. It’s fuchsia partner isn’t shown online, but the skirt would also look great with this deep jewel-tone-purple blouse tucked into it – aka, “blouse with tabs”. My clutch is my black Marc Jacobs quilted go-to, purchased in Vegas three years ago. The “quilting – Eugenie leather clutch” is still going strong as part of his signature collection. The finishing touch, my shoes, are my new Stuart Weiztman black patent round-toe pumps, purchased at Browns on a recent stint in Toronto. Stuart Weiztman is my #1 high-heel. He makes classic and stylish 2-5-3.25 inch pumps (NB: avoid anything less than 2 inches, just go for a flat – “kitten heels” don’t flatter anyone) that are wearable for hours without wanting to cry, they are to my feel what Jbrands are to my thighs. LOVE. Stay tuned for outfits 2, 3, 4 and 5.

In case you missed “reconsider orange”, or haven’t noticed the bright hue everywhere right now – look again! Gwyneth is perfection in a Calvin Klein shift (no longer available, see a darker take), while Jen-An dons a strapless key-hole Vivienne Westwood (not available online, see Vivienne’s closest available). Both bombshell-blondes chose strappy heels, adding a dainty finishing touch.
In addition to a shift and strapless, ORANGE also works in a sundress, sheath, maxi, one-shoulder, and fitted mini. The key to a successful bright? Keep everything else understated. Metallics and nudes are the best complements for shoes and bags. Get a spray tan! And forgo most, if not all, accessories… letting your dress STEAL the show.

Spring 2011 is all about COLOR. And what’s not to love about a bright orange dress? From Kate’s Proenza Schouler fitted shift (exact dress is sold out online, consider the closest available PS style), to Victoria’s self-designed cotton crepe dress – both girls are a breath of fresh air. Keeping your shoes and accessories black (neutral nude, or even navy) is important to truly let the sun shine in… making the dress the focal point of your outfit, and avoiding any clown or rainbow vibes.
Why make everything black, black black? Fashion should be fun and
put a woman in the spotlight with a little bit of danger, you know?
