10 – Ray-bans – every girl needs a pair. If you don’t have them, it’s time. Whether you opt for Beyoncé, Rachel Bilson, Kristen Cavallari or Kristen Bell’s classic Wayfarer, Sarah Jessica‘s sporty-chic “RB 4099′s”, or Elin Nordengren’s latest “CATS 5000” (flying off-shelves everywhere) these styles are here to stay. Go for all-black, have fun with tortoise, or get funky with two-tone.
9 – Nautical Stripes – fleet week came early this year!! Stripes are in the limelight with all kinds of long-sleeved tops, tanks, tees, dresses (maternity-wear is no exception). So nautical, and so regal – we love the variety of color combos, but the iconics remain white and black, and white and navy… Warm weather aside, Claudia shows us it’s a look that carries through in all seasons. Styling tips: A thinner stripe is more flattering – vertical stripes make you appear taller, and horizontal stripes can minimize a long-torso. If you don’t want extra girth, try small to medium diagonal stripes.
8 – Mix and Match Bikinis – Molly Sims shows us she’s bikini-ready as she mixes and matches. We love the look of mixed solids, with other solids or prints. Favorites are stripes, polka-dot, paisley, and animal prints. Keep the area you want to minimize (typically the bottom) darker and more basic (white is a great bottom that complements any top), and play up where you want eyes to be drawn with something fun and flirty. Details like Molly’s tie on her bandeau, accentuate the bust.
7 – Fun Nails – orange, gray or lavender are just a few hues that pop against your summer-style. We’re loving bright pink (thanks Gwyneth); hot-red (oh-la la Jen); orange and coral; gray and taupe; and soft-purple and lavender. An unexpected “royal” dark works well, shining against white.
6 – Shredded Jeans – to the dismay of grandparents everywhere, ripped jeans are back with a vengeance. We love the excessively shredded bfs and skinnies of Jessica Alba, Kim K and Rachel Bilson. Whether you make it a do-it-yourself project with sand piper and a knife, or you buy one of the season’s many new pairs – there’s something very comforting about getting your shred on.
5 – Short Shorts – there’s a good reason why she ♥‘s short shorts. This sexy update to a short skirt shows off your summer-legs while avoiding any car-dismount wardrobe malfunctions… take your shorts from day (paired with flips, ballerinas or sandals) to night with hardware filled heels (gladiator heels, Gwyn’s peep-toe-sandal… anything with a bang!). Black and white are go-to’s.
4 – Jump Suits / Rompers – the mating of skirts and shorts has given birth to the jumper / romper. Not a look for the faint of heart, jump suits are comfortable and fun. Similar to short shorts, they can be dressed up or down for day (great over a bikini) or night (add a blazer or a summer scarf).
3 – Maxi Dress - Max-eee!!!! We love this look for it’s comfort, chicness and practicality. With so many styles, what’s not to love… Camila Alves, Molly Sims and Halle Barry are MAX-ificent.
2 – Summer Hats – from fedoras and oversized floppies (Very Vanessa), to wide-brimmed straw sunhats (Keri Russell), hats are a big accessory right now with good reason: protecting from the sun’s harmful rays, they can keep you from getting heat stroke as many experience a hot summer.
1 – Skinny Cargo Pants – the pant that’s EVERYWHERE is the army-inspired J.Brand “Houlihan” skinny cargo. Cindy Crawford, Jessica Alba and Miley Cyrus are just three of the MANY A-list celebs that have been spotted getting their houlihan on, HOT for J.Brand’s popular spring-summer pant.
