We fell for her on “The Hills”, loved her on “The City”, and just can’t get enough of this MTV reality star turned clothing designer (Whitney’s line “Whitney Eve” uses her first and second names). Whitney Port can now add author to her resume with the release of her book “True Whit: Designing a Life of Style, Beauty, and Fun”. A refreshing guide with tips on how to achieve the life we all want and deserve. A life that is BEAUTY FULL.

For the full story, I highly encourage you to buy and read “True Whit”. For a taste, here are

5 style questions answered by Whitney Port:

1 – What is your advice to girls and women on how to find their personal style?

Personal style is something innate, some unknown factor that drives us to certain trends, looks, colors, styles, etc. Sometimes when I am looking for inspiration or a new way to change up how I would style something, I look to cool blogs for some insight. Websites like whowhatwear or stylebubble.co.uk are cool websites that you can use for reference when putting together an outfit from your own closet.’

2 – What go-to item in your closet travels with you everywhere?

‘My Made Me black leather biker jacket and Toga boots.’

3 – What’s next on your fashion wish-list?

‘I have been really loving this Rodarte matching top and skirt at Opening Ceremony.’

4 – How would you describe your own signature style?

My signature style varies every day, depending on my mood. I’d say in the least complicated way that it is feminine, funky street wear dressed up and down.’

5 – What’s one simple thing women can do to look and feel better everyday?

Put on red or coral lipstick! Even in a t-shirt and jeans, a sexy pout will do the trick. Also say to yourself all the things you’re grateful for and all the qualities you like about yourself and embrace them and own them as you step out into the world. Confidence always looks good!’

Go on… get your green on.

alice + olivia: Fall 2011

Stacey Bendet’s Fall 2011 show at the Plaza Hotel – February 14, 2011 – New York Fashion Week.

I was lucky enough to attend Alice + Olivia’s Fall 2011 Fashion Show at New York City’s Plaza Hotel.

Happy Valentine’s Day burlesque-style!

Backstage was the place to be, with Frank Sinatra’s  New York, New Yorksetting the stage for creative perfection. An adorably pregnant, Stacey Bendet wowed us all yet again – from deep reds, jewel tones, lace, velvet, fur and her ever-favorite trademark sequins. The choice of the Park Plaza over the Lincoln center provided an intimate flare. Sponsored by Veuve Clicquot, white gloved servers kept the fashionable attendees appropriately buzzing. A+O festive cookies, bite-size cupcakes and Godiva chocolates complemented Stacey’s spicy designs with sugary sweet treats.

Fashion credits for the above are as follows:

I’m wearing alice + olivia Leather Tulip Skirt, Tink stretch-silk blouse, Prada shoes, J.Crew bracelet.

Vanessa Hudgens is wearing alice + olivia Remalie Embellished Trapeze Top from Spring 2011.

Brittany Snow’s strapless alice + olivia dress isn’t available online.

Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford is wearing alice + olivia Arie Tied Collar Blouse.

Gossip Girl’s Tika Sumpter is wearing alice + olivia Jocelyn Exposed Zip Tank Dres.

Fashion Week must-haves

“When it’s three o’clock in New York, it’s still 1938 in London.” – Bette Midler

It’s Fashion Week Eve for the city that never sleeps… and whether you’ll be visiting the retail capital of North America, attending any shows, or just living vicariously through the media’s coverage – I’m dedicating this week’s must-haves to what every traveling lady needs in her life.

10 – an on trend blazer to throw over skinny jeans, a skirt or dress – I love ELIZABETH and JAMES Preppy Blazer in Black/Ivory. I can’t get enough of stripes lately, and it’s a great update on a black boyfriend blazer that can take you from day to night (over skinnies, trousers, a dress, skirt…). The pattern mixes prints for you instantly, whatever you pair it with. And the black piping is so regal!

9 – a bag big enough to go from day to night, without sacrificing style - Alexander Wang Rocco Duffel’s is my go-to bag right now, I get at least one complement on it a week. Big enough to fit your wallet, PDA, keys, makeup, water bottle, camera – yet small enough that it’s not a suitcase.

8 – the perfect polish - Chanel had me at hello… their nail polish hues can do no wrong in my eyes (she says as her collection grows monthly). Three of their most popular of-the-moment shades: Particulière, Paradoxal and Black Satin now come in a tri-pack. Pick one and rock it all week long.

7 – a statement watch, to get you to the church (show) on time… whether it’s gold, silver, rose, mixed metal, translucent, ceramic, plastic, rubber, tortoise – a big men’s size watch on a woman’s wrist is practical and just plain hot. So you can keep your iPhone and BBs off when it’s showtime.

6 – chic travel garment bag - LeSportSac’s bags travels so well, I love their weekenders as carry-ons (small to large) and checked (extra large) bags. My latest purchase is their patent garment bag, it has a strap so it can fly solo as carry-on or checked – yet it’s small enough to also fit in a suitcase.

“They say life’s what happens when you’re busy making other plans. But sometimes in New York, life is what happens when you’re waiting for a table.”

- Carrie Bradshaw, ‘Sex and The City’

5 – back to basics – go for a white blouse, add ruffles or a classic tie to your silks shirt – tuck it into a high-waisted skirt (I’ll be wearing #1 tucked into an Alice + Olivia white blouse that’s not online yet to their February 14th show at the Park Plaza), skinny or trouser pants and glam it up.

4 – Tory Burch patent Eddie black ballerina – the perfect plane shoe! And yes, that’s “plane” not “plain”. There’s nothing plain about a shimmering black flat that takes you through the terminals of JFK, LaGuardia or Newark before changing into winter-faring boots. Fashion meets function.

3 – the perfect coat, that actually keeps you warm - if you haven’t been following the weather in NYC this year, it’s been one storm after another (along with Chicago, Toronto, and even Dallas!)… the East Coast has been getting a lot of snow and/or cold fronts. So while I’m all for trying to get away with my fall and spring coats in East Coast winter months when you’re going for a certain look, 2011 is a year for WARM LAYERS. I’ll be wearing my Mackage – AKA warmest coat ever.

2 – KILLER heels – helloooo Prada, nice to see you again. The perfect balance between first-date heels (3 inches +), and second chances (everything else)- I lived in Prada heels for three years in my previous corporate gig (suited up everyday) and they are as comfortable as they are sexy. 10!!

1 – one gorgeous detail / INDULGENCE - for me this year it’s Alice + Olivia’s leather tulip skirt in tan. And yes, it’s just as DIVINE in person as you can imagine. I tried it on at their Robertson boutique and knew it had to be mine within seconds (OK, when I saw it on the mannequin in the window just a few days before I knew…). The leather is soft and luscious, and there’s a gold zipper up the back that adds the perfect finishing touch. I will have, and wear, this FOREVER. Thank you!!

“Earmuffs!”

A week of cold weather in New York City was really just an excuse to wear my Burberry earmuffs.

I spent last week in one of my favorite cities, the retail capital of the world: New York City. Anyone who’s ever been to New York will agree that the city offers an energy, personality and life that’s unparalleled… anywhere. Even in the cold of early January (temperatures hovered between 5-25 degrees Fahrenheit, the city’s longest cold front since 1977) New Yorkers were out until the early hours of the morning. The city really never sleeps. And with so much to do, neither do it’s visitors.

“It’s 24/7 here. It’s nonstop. The whole buzz of the city turns me on.”

- ‘Gossip Girl’’s Ed Westwick – aka Chuck Bass

The photo above was taken at Rockefeller Square, a hot-spot for tourists and anyone looking for one of the city’s J.Crew stores (N.B. my shopping bag) – shocking since I’m really private about my love towards my favorite retailer that started in the city with it’s 1989 South Street Seaport store.

Cold temperatures can be fun and creative to dress for; layering different pieces together, mixing prints and fabrics, the options are limitless. Case in point: to keep my ears warm I rotated between my Burberry signature plaid earmuffs, and my Michael Kors brown faux fox fur (exact style no longer available) worn alone as photographed or on top of my m0851 tweed newsboy hat. Above I’m wearing a Theory checkered scarf that’s so big it can double as a blanket on long flights, a m0851 wool coat, J.Crew riding boots, and black J Brand skinnies. I often layer my checkered scarf over my Michael Kors “shokpink” neck warmer, or another solid scarf. So the next time you step out into the East Coast cold, think of fashion meeting function and try some earmuffs on for size.

♫ … Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York… ♫

I’m in New York this week so I’d like to pay homage to the US headquarters of fashion. From street style to chic Upper East Side (insert Blair Waldorf here), there are so many personalized styles here you can’t help but love. Sandra Bullock pairs her cape with black skinnies, Ray Ban CATS 5000′s and mid calf open-slit boots for a perfect relaxed yet-so-stylish NYC 10. I love all-things Sandy B.

Cape’s are an instant update to your wardrobe, throw one on over jeans, leggings; anything – and you’re suddenly put together. It’s a look that don’t have to cost a fortune, but it will prevail for many seasons to come… Topshop has some of the best ones on the market right now. Tartan patterns are a do, as are stripes and/or fringe (notice Sandra’s subtle fringe). There are lot’s of $$$lux options too – speckled tweed is just one! So come on and cape yourself, SB-NYC style.

Lanvin lovin’

today is the launch of Lanvin’s for H&M – in honor let’s celebrate Katie’s Lanvin leopard trench.

When Katie Holmes appeared on David Letterman this September, what she wore into the studio was as exciting as what she wore on the show. Her Lanvin Leopard Print Trench Coat and Oliver Peoples Tycoon 51 sunglasses stole the show (her nude pumps are the perfect subtle accent).

The old adage never wear white after Labor Day is long gone, and with good riddance. White is great go-to color, all-year. Although it admittedly pops against a tan and darker complexion, it can still be luscious against pale skin that’s untouched by the sun. Whether you keep it to one item like a blazer, or rock it head-to-toe (a wool suit skirt perhaps?) – as long as you keep the material seasonally appropriate (i.e. don’t wear linen in the winter months of the East Coast) it works.

AnneLynne and Gwyn opted for longer boyfriend cuts, while Cameron’s has a shrunken feel. Regardless of where you live, Cameron’s look is nothing-but-perfection for cooler months with a loose black top underneath and her dark gray scarf. AnnaLynne’s blazer over her blush strapless cocktail dress is another perfect 10. And Gwyneth’s on-trend light-wash skinnies and white tee, perfectly pulled together with her white bf hits the mark. If you’re looking for one piece to update your signature style, taking you from day to night, the office to a night out - the white blazer is it.
