“GST“® – formerly known as Goods and Services Tax…. Clearly, I’m Canadian.

Three to five times a week you’ll find me commuting across town to Hollywood. What used to be a 10-minute drive from West Hollywood, is now 25-60+ minutes depending on the time of day and traffic from my new home. But you won’t hear me complaining. It’s worth it, and that says A LOT.
15-months ago I discovered GST® - and just over a year later, it’s change my body and my life. A former self-proclaimed exercise junkie I started running at age 15 and didn’t stop for 15 years. As much as my mind loved it, my body constantly protested. I ran through shin splints, sprained (and broken) ankles, and more. I caught pneumonia on a cold run one Toronto winter (lesson learned: don’t go outside for a run when it’s below 0 °C, no matter how good your gear is). After years of physio, chiropractic, infrared, and countless other treatments my former-PT turned me onto Pilates. A yoga lover, I gave it a go… but it wasn’t for me. I didn’t love how I felt while doing it, and it wasn’t helping my chronic pain. Thankfully in the same studio at the time, I discovered “GST”®, and within the first week of classes I was pain free. This was a point when I’d been waking up during the night in pain, and couldn’t sit (or drive) without excruciating attacks. This was a miracle.
Created by Anna Rahe as “the athletic art of body transformation, GST® is a revolutionary new movement system that changes, once and for all, the shape of your body. Anna created GST® through the accumulation of her studies in various somatic disciplines as well as her journey of personal healing from severe body issues.”
In my words, GST® is a combination of the best aspects of barre classes, pilates, yoga, plyometrics, strength training, cardio, dance and stretching (aka the best of everything). Every class is different (you can really go to five in one week without getting sick of it). Classes are choreographed as a sequence of different “actions”, yet there are really only a few core movements you’re doing – you’re just doing them in countless ways. Resulting in your muscles being worked in all the right ways, refining the action… and looking “sexy” not “ugly” (you can watch your legs, arms, abs as you move them – with the proper technique they take the shape you’re striving to obtain – GENIUS!!) Trust me, and Ms. Rahe – it works! Being a lover of quotes and mantras – GST® can be summarized as follows: “the body is what the body does.” It’s not a workout, it’s a lifestyle.
Located in Hollywood (7562 W Sunset Blvd, LA, CA 90046) GST® is popular with celebrities and big industry players, I won’t name names – guess you’ll have to try it for yourself to find out who☺
And for the visually charged, please enjoy a clip that aired on LA’s local ABC news last fall. Yes that’s me, and no I haven’t started spelling my name with a “C”.
- Sound body. Sound mind.
