It’s Lá Fhéile Pádraig!! Irish for Saint Patrick’s Day. One day a year when EVERYONE’s Irish… or can at least get a little feisty. So while green nails are a trend gladly left in 2010, today they’re a DO!

Go on… get your green on.

Tila March Manon Suede Mini Bag

Tila March Manon Suede Mini Bag – perfect for the holidays and into winter 2011!

what are they wearing…

in Antarctica??!

I’m about to find out. Today marks the beginning of a trip that will conquer a lifelong dream to travel to all seven continents (before age 30 – that criteria was altered last January to include my 30th year when I learned these somewhat intensive expeditions are booked a year in advance and only run from the end of December until early March each year; noted). Another bucket list goal was to get to 30 countries before 30 (it only counts if I’ve actually left the airport). I’m applying the extension here too, Argentina and Chile are numbers 27 and 28 leaving me with two more 2011 adventures. I’m excited to visit Santiago on my way South and Buenos Aires on my way home.

So what are they wearing in Antarctica? I’ll be wearing a lot of LAYERS, including my Hunter Wellies with leopard fleece socks, gray Burberry scarf, North Face quilted puffy baumer, and LA Dodgers hat to hideaway and close my eyes on long flights. I’ll save everyone the pictures of the rest of my less glamorous “gear”, but I will say this is probably my most interesting packing experience ever (although it’s not my first trip requiring enough disposable hand and feet warmers to brave each day’s subarctic temperatures… apparently Toronto in December isn’t cold enough for me). It’s also really fun to say “Antarctica” in any normal sentence, as in: “Sure, after Antarctica?”, “I’ll call you after Antarctica” or “Let’s do it when I’m back from Antarctica.” It never gets old. I’m a lucky girl.

Stay tuned for pictures of me and my new best-friend-forever Penguins in the New Year…

Happy holidays!!

You only live once, make sure it’s enough.

10 – Shimmering Short Shorts - worn with dark tights and high heels, or flat over-the-knee boots when your gams need a rest, these are a go-to that can take you from holiday days to nights. Keep your top subtle, a black or cream tank, even gray works well. Let the shimmer in the shorts be your statement, you don’t want to channel an ornament for the tree. Think shimmer-chic.

9 – Polka-dot hosiery – and because it’s the holidays, we’re giving this look some SPANX (sidebar: thank goodness for SPANX!!) Statement hosiery is an instant update – it’s the new fishnet, and taking a cue from mini SJP we can’t get enough. There’s nothing polka-dot hosiery doesn’t go with!

8 – Black Shoe Booties - the perfect shoe for skirts, dresses, trouser-pants, capris, skinny jeans, cords and more… whether worn with detailed hosiery or basic black you can’t go wrong.

7 – Cropped Tuxedo Trouser Pants -  don’t feel like showing your legs? Fear not, the right pair of pants can get you through the season. Trouser pants are great with pumps and shoe-booties. This style works with embellished tops, boyfriend blazers, and anything sequin. The irony of this masculine piece with something uber-feminine on top can’t be resisted.

6 – Something Sequin – Whether you opt for an embellished top, a sequin boyfriend blazer, bag, clutch, sweater, dress, skirt, or pants – LIGHT IT UP. Just keep it to one sequin (and shining) piece per outfit, and keep everything else simple. The sequins are the statement. Let them shine.

5 – Statement clutch – the J.Crew one above is great because it has a strap, allowing your hands to be free for handshakes, food, drink, and tending to little ones. Leave your suitcase-size bags at home, at the office or in the car. Keep it simple, subtle and chic with an envelope-size clutch.

4 – Costume Jewelry – a statement necklace, bracelet, or ring – pick one, ROCK it, OWN it…

3 – Leather pants – real, faux, or wax coated – this look is hot hot HOT. It’s spot-on with a boyfriend blazer, loose tank, or even paired ironically with a casual tee Sandra-Bullock-style.

2 – Flat over the knee boots – too much holiday time in heels can reek havoc on your back, but don’t reach for ballerinas too quickly. You can still have statement-shoe-style with flats. Get your boot on, over-the-knee. So cute with tights or leggings, short shorts, a mini skirt or dress. Or even paired with a long formed-fitting tank, and oversized boyfriend blazer. Let OTK’s save you!

1 – white silk scarf – white is unexpected this time of year, but it looks sooo great! Opt for a silk pattern that’s inherently dressy like this Jimmy Choo “Stefy” Silk Scarf. It goes with EVERYTHING.

Other holidays go-tos include anything Valentino-red, a LBD, fur, and a pair of statement heels.

Just reach for any of these items, and mix & match yourself all the way through. ‘Tis the season

I’m all for ladies first, but in this case – I saved the best for last. Yesterday was our men’s gift guide, and last week featured a unisex guide. Today is for the GIRLS!

This time of year causes many people a lot of stress, and as much as we try every gift can’t always be a 10… or can it?? For the men out there, and women buying gifts for other women, check out what to buy for less than $25, $50, $75, $100, $150, $200, $250, $300, $500, and $1,000.

Other safe suggestions for women are a spa or restaurant gift certificate (maybe take it one step further and book her treatments for her); a mani-pedi gift card at her neighborhood place (you were paying attention!); her favorite lux shampoo and conditioner or perfume (again showing attention to detail); a trip (together or on her own, either should be sans kids); a night away; an iTunes playlist (for her to enjoy during a bath, working out, or getting ready in the morning); her favorite DVD or CD; a magazine subscription to one of her favorite publications…

And last but not least, the most important part of any gift is the card. Don’t forget it, and more important is what you write inside. Even if it’s a few lines, don’t just sign your name. This is your chance to recognize, thank, honor, and cherish someone. Make a statement money can’t buy.
