My love of all-things orange is no secret. Here’s another way to wear it – color blocking and all!
I have five weddings in the next five months (not one is in the US…). They kick off this weekend in my homeland’s capital city, Ottawa (6.11!!). Above is my outfit for wedding 1.0. Inspired by Gucci’s spring/summer 2011 collection of bright color blocking green, orange, and purple – and celebrities like Kim K and Jessica Alba owning this trend – I bought the above pairing at Zara. The high-waisted “skirt with slit” is such a deep tangerine, it almost looks red. It’s fuchsia partner isn’t shown online, but the skirt would also look great with this deep jewel-tone-purple blouse tucked into it – aka, “blouse with tabs”. My clutch is my black Marc Jacobs quilted go-to, purchased in Vegas three years ago. The “quilting – Eugenie leather clutch” is still going strong as part of his signature collection. The finishing touch, my shoes, are my new Stuart Weiztman black patent round-toe pumps, purchased at Browns on a recent stint in Toronto. Stuart Weiztman is my #1 high-heel. He makes classic and stylish 2-5-3.25 inch pumps (NB: avoid anything less than 2 inches, just go for a flat – “kitten heels” don’t flatter anyone) that are wearable for hours without wanting to cry, they are to my feel what Jbrands are to my thighs. LOVE. Stay tuned for outfits 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Many of the amazing females in my life and women I style are moms and moms-to-be. So while I’m still closer to the carry-on, weekender, and gym catchall bags phase of life – I stay current on all-things bumptastic. Here are my favorite stylish diaper bags (remember, they make great gifts!):
Not Rational Hansel: leave it to the Mother-ship (what a friend of mine has renamed Barneys New York) to get it RIGHT. Available in “bronze”, “New England black”, and “grey”. The leather is divine.
go BIG with Gucci: if you’ve done a prenatal or new mom’s yoga class you’ve likely seen a Gucci diaper bag. Halle Berry’s a fan of their signature print with brown strap. Provides instant glam.
For those in transition, try a weekender-meets-diaper-bag like this brown leather Hudson.
Pregnancy and motherhood are times when fashion can TRULY meet function. Get your glow on!
Rachel and Kate opt for $$$lux handbags. While many choose to use the louder signature Louis Vuitton brown and gold logo – this softer and more subtle branding is understated-ly CHIC-tastic.
Both girls paired their respective hobos with blue skinnies, black jackets (Rachel’s a blazer, and Kate’s an overcoat for fall in New York). Kate’s buckled black leather boots are as perfect, as Rachel’s little suede black booties. Start with the perfect bag, and let your signature look unfold.
Whether we like it or not, this time of year many of us find ourselves on airplanes. By choice, I’ll be embarking on many long flights of my own this week with my final destination being very South… in Antarctica. To keep my comfortable and sane throughout my travels here are four of my staples that go with my every time I take flight. Whether it’s across the continent to the East Coast or approaching the other end of the world, keeping a few key items close by makes all the difference.
Emilia Travel Set – this cashmere travel set has your comfort essentials, a blanket and eye mask. The zippered bag can double as a pillow, and acts as a great case for the blanket in your carry-on.
Gucci pouch – a pouch worn diagonally across the body is the safest way to carry your passport, blackberry or iPhone, cash, and credit cards. The security of a money belt (depending on your location and travel savvy-ness you might want to wear a hidden money belt as well), while maintaining the style of a fashion lover. You’ll never scrounge around in a big purse or carry-on to try to produce your passport or boarding pass. It’s so small you can comfortably keep it on while using an airplane washroom (never leave your passport anywhere you aren’t while in transit). I swear by this Gucci bag I bought in Singapore, but you can also opt for an $everyday investment with LeSportSac’s belt bag. I have this one in black patent and I wear it working out and hiking.
LeSportSac Large Weekender – the tried and true weekender comes in small, medium, large and extra large. Large is the perfect size for carry-on (extra large will also fit most airlines guidelines as long as it’s not fully stuffed, but be careful as you’ll lose the structure). As much as I love a big leather carry-on (mO851 weekenders being my go-to), I don’t worry about stuffing LeSportSac under the chair in front of me or in an overhead compartment. The plastic patent is so durable.
Klean Kanteen – whatever bottle you choose, while traveling and flying you need to be in control of your own hydration. Never board a flight or get into a car without water. Having a reusable container allows flight attendants to offer you refills and won’t add to plastic bottles sitting in landfills. As well as the considerations of harmful ingredients in plastic and non-PBA-free metals.
Other items to keep in mind are: an endless supply of unread books and magazines, a fully charged iPod with new play-lists, sound proof headphones (I swear by Bose), snacks, vitamins and loads of face, hand cream and lip salve. Sleep when you can and take deep breaths in long airport lines.
Drew Barrymore loves her Balmain brass belt so much that she wore it to her London and LA “Going The Distance” premieres. We can’t blame her! This classic brown and gold belt gives her waist the perfect cinch over her gorgeous brocade Catherine Malandrino resort 2010 gown in LA, and just days before it was magic with her olive-green-jersey Alexander McQueen mini in London.
Along with Drew’s Balmain Fall 2010 RTW Gold Metal Placket Belt – her gray suede YSL Tribute Two pumps also made both cuts, and have proved to be her go-to favs for the past few months – “Drew’s gray suede shoes”.
A belt is the quickest way to update your look – one go-to can travel from one outfit to the next. This season opt for cognac, dark brown or black leather with gold details. Ornate yourself someSTUDS.
Which look are you feeling, LA or London? Which side of the pond are you on?
SJP’s style is flawless. This icon keeps her glasses right on trend but not over-the-top, opting for oversized vintage square frames for day, and Ray-ban modern plastic wrapped frames at night.
She shows us an inventive way to scarf-your-neck, and reminds us that sometimes -
Spotted: Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen) staying true to her Upper East Side style with the perfect pairing of a gray military coat, croc satchel and tartan tights – March 8th, 2010 on the CW.

“They say the clothes make the man, but who makes the clothes?” – GOSSIP GIRL
While it’s warming up in most parts of the country, those in the East are still getting bouts of cold. It’s nothing a military jacket and tights can’t handle. Spring’s underway, and summer’ll be here in about five minutes. But for now we can amuse ourselves with some of the best looks of fall and winter 2010 being reduced. The only thing better than good couture, is good couture on SALEEE ♥
