Stacey Bendet’s Fall 2011 show at the Plaza Hotel – February 14, 2011 – New York Fashion Week.
I was lucky enough to attend Alice + Olivia’s Fall 2011 Fashion Show at New York City’s Plaza Hotel.
Happy Valentine’s Day burlesque-style! ♥
Backstage was the place to be, with Frank Sinatra’s ♫ New York, New York ♫ setting the stage for creative perfection. An adorably pregnant, Stacey Bendet wowed us all yet again – from deep reds, jewel tones, lace, velvet, fur and her ever-favorite trademark sequins. The choice of the Park Plaza over the Lincoln center provided an intimate flare. Sponsored by Veuve Clicquot, white gloved servers kept the fashionable attendees appropriately buzzing. A+O festive cookies, bite-size cupcakes and Godiva chocolates complemented Stacey’s spicy designs with sugary sweet treats.
I’m feeling ponchos right now. And when they’re worn properly, I’m not afraid to admit it…
Blake captured perfect-poncho-style while picking out her Christmas tree in New York City last month. The black leggings tucked into KILLER distressed brown motorcycle boots bring her loosely draped Aztec wool 12th. by Cynthia Vincent “blanket sweater” to a 10!! Nothing but net…
Blake’s blanket is so popular it’s only in Petite online, thankfully many other designers are getting their not-so Joseph-technicolor dream coats on – from $$$lux investments to $everyday value.
The key to mastering this look is to let your poncho be the focus. Don’t mix in any other prints, bright colors or statements. Keep your bottoms fitted (skinny jeans or leggings) and dark in hue. And don’t scarf yourself – the material in your cape is all your neck needs. Blake’s blanket hangs loosely but it isn’t over-sized. If you opt for something with more material, belt it at the waist to maintain your shape. A successful poncho displays a relaxed bohemian style, so keep it SIMPLE.
While you’re searching for the perfect-poncho, consider Blake’s blanket for creative inspiration.

I spent last week in one of my favorite cities, the retail capital of the world: New York City. Anyone who’s ever been to New York will agree that the city offers an energy, personality and life that’s unparalleled… anywhere. Even in the cold of early January (temperatures hovered between 5-25 degrees Fahrenheit, the city’s longest cold front since 1977) New Yorkers were out until the early hours of the morning. The city really never sleeps. And with so much to do, neither do it’s visitors.
“It’s 24/7 here. It’s nonstop. The whole buzz of the city turns me on.”
- ‘Gossip Girl’’s Ed Westwick – aka Chuck Bass
The photo above was taken at Rockefeller Square, a hot-spot for tourists and anyone looking for one of the city’s J.Crew stores (N.B. my shopping bag) – shocking since I’m really private about my love towards my favorite retailer that started in the city with it’s 1989 South Street Seaport store.
Cold temperatures can be fun and creative to dress for; layering different pieces together, mixing prints and fabrics, the options are limitless. Case in point: to keep my ears warm I rotated between my Burberry signature plaid earmuffs, and my Michael Kors brown faux fox fur (exact style no longer available) worn alone as photographed or on top of my m0851 tweed newsboy hat. Above I’m wearing a Theory checkered scarf that’s so big it can double as a blanket on long flights, a m0851 wool coat, J.Crew riding boots, and black J Brand skinnies. I often layer my checkered scarf over my Michael Kors “shokpink” neck warmer, or another solid scarf. So the next time you step out into the East Coast cold, think of fashion meeting function and try some earmuffs on for size.
this ones for the boys! OK… admittedly it’s for us girls too – from the airport to the red carpet…

Last Monday we saw Blake (aka Serena) light up the screen in her wool Tibi Sebastian Blazer, and Of Two Minds pleated skirt. Her killer Carlos Falchi python tote hits this look out of the park…
The irony of a menswear inspired boyfriend-style tweed blazer offset by the feminine silk detail of Blake’s paisley and floral skirt works. Her opaque tights keep the short skirt from getting trampy, and her gray leather shoe-booties are also a perfect match. While this look gone array could have channeled more eclectic than Upper East Side. Eric Daman’s mixing and matching is another 10.
I’m loving tweed so much I’m repeated Halle’s gorgeous Giambattista Valli from last week, to show you a brighter take on Giambattista’s classic suit-skirt. While green-hued-tweed is a bolder statement than gray and black, you can tone down the Blair-Waldorf-aggressiveness with all black tights, pumps, and top underneath. One bright hued tweed in an outfit is often statement enough.
You could also mix and match, pairing a darker-hued skirt (see Leighton’s $$chic) skirt with a colored tweed blazer, green or others colors like red (ie. $$chic St John and $everyday Free People). Just be sure to keep your outfit to one color per suit, ie. red OR green and gray OR black. Together would be December 25th-holiday festive, but not fabulous…
Us non-Upper-East-Siders can also lose Blair Waldorf’s trademark headband and ruffled blouse.
Suits are by no means only for the office, they can take us to lunch, to high-tea, or to many a-charitable-function. But for WATW‘s office working women, stay tuned for your dedicated November must-haves: “working women’s top 10″, posted this Monday, November 1st.
In the mean time, whatever the reason or occasion – let’s all get-suited.
