< $125 – UGG Shearling Glove: comes in brown, camel and black leather – a cozy classic.
< $200 – A plaid scarf: not too-fashion-forward, but a soft statement that keeps him looking pulled together. This look works for the office and weekends.
< $500 – Alden® for J.Crew suede longwing bluchers: if he doesn’t know what shoes to wear with jeans on casual Friday or nights out, these are them! They also work with dress pants and a suit. They aren’t to be missed in black or dark brown leather either (a shoe in for a more conservative dresser – for the daring, check out the high tops).
♫ … Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York… ♫
I’m in New York this week so I’d like to pay homage to the US headquarters of fashion. From street style to chic Upper East Side (insert Blair Waldorf here), there are so many personalized styles here you can’t help but love. Sandra Bullock pairs her cape with black skinnies, Ray Ban CATS 5000′s and mid calf open-slit boots for a perfect relaxed yet-so-stylish NYC 10. I love all-things Sandy B.
Cape’s are an instant update to your wardrobe, throw one on over jeans, leggings; anything – and you’re suddenly put together. It’s a look that don’t have to cost a fortune, but it will prevail for many seasons to come… Topshop has some of the best ones on the market right now. Tartan patterns are a do, as are stripes and/or fringe (notice Sandra’s subtle fringe). There are lot’s of $$$lux options too – speckled tweed is just one! So come on and cape yourself, SB-NYC style.
I’ll admit to having two Burberry scarves – the signature gray and pink print. A close friend picked me up the gray one in Bermuda (thanks JS!), and I bought the pink at a Premium Outlet in Vegas (outlets are the best for basic–timeless pieces like this). Classic style aside, there’s something so comforting about the brands cashmere against your skin. Trust me, this is a great gift.
Other successful Burberry outlet purchases of mine have been the signature ear muffs (so cute over a tweed newsboy or bucket hat), and the reversible bucket rain hat (black on one side, signature print on the other). As much as anyone can walk into a department store or boutique and buy Burberry items full price, my advice is to buy your coveted items during a “Friends & Family” promo, or if you ever venture to Premium Outlets in any major US city. My favorites are in Southern California, Wrentham (Boston), Woodbury Common (New Jersey), and Northern California (Napa!!). A scarf secret is to consider buying a kids cashmere style (retailing for $100 or less), compared to the men’s and women’s styles (~ $300). Of course the kids size smaller than the adults, but it can be worn looped once around the neck (offering less bulk).
When it comes to the print known around the world, think outside of that brown embossed box.
PS – those check rain boots are next on my list! So cute for kids too…
