SJP’s corduroys

If you’re looking for a cozier alternative to denim, try corduroy. I love my J Brand black skinnies, as well as the haze-colored-flared-style SJP is wearing above (in Juicy Couture, sadly no longer available). Her floppy hat is right on trend, I have a similar one by Hat Attack and I covet it’s black and grey sibling. Parker’s gorgeous leopard scarf is YSL, the look can be found more affordably by Tory Burch. Her rolled-up flares, brown ankle boots, purple suede hobo, and white-tank with black bra peaking through all give her that effortlessly chic SJP-style we’ve grown to LOVE.

My love for colo(u)red denim is no secret. I wear my crimson Rag & Bone skinnies weekly and relish in complements. They go with so many different outfits, I consider them my fashion lay-up. And while many people might look at this photo and first notice Rachel’s Burberry studded metallic leather bowling bag (sold out) – I go ga-ga over her burgundy (merlot, magenta, purple, or “wine”) colored cords. Tucked into her Zara ankle booties, Rachel’s look is perfect for fall.

For those looking to start slowly, or keep it office appropriate, stick to basic blank skinny cords – I live in my J Brands! They’re so comfortable and soft they feeling like a cotton legging. So great for travel. They are a 10 with flats, boots or heels. A great one-pair-of-pants packing option. DONE!

wonderFALL must-haves

Fall has always been my favorite fashion season. And now that I’m back living on the East Coast, I’m excited to reunite with the seasons (OK, maybe not winter…). After two-plus-years in LA, I’ve quickly become fair-weathered and I’m cold whenever I’m not in direct sunlight and extreme heat. There will be many scarves, hats, and jackets in my future. Let the layering begin as we fall into fall.

10 – a weekend getaway vest - I’m on the hunt for the perfect black vest (ideally hooded, and maybe leather). Until I find it, I’m coveting this shiny patent-esque crimson style by J.CREW. Great over black, white, or gray. Works well to-and-from the gym; brunch; in the city or country.

9 – black waxed skinny jeans – I don’t hide my love for black skinnis, I own many pairs. Two of which are wax coated (J Brand) – the perfection way to achieve the style of black leather pants without the discomfort, or price! They wear well with flats during the day, and dress up perfectly at night with heels. Just throw on a simple top, sweater, blazer or blouse and you’re instantly chic.

8 – mesh top – I bought this Theory silver mesh sweater in LA and I constantly get complements. Depending on your height (I have a long torso) – it may be cropped – like it is on me… I wear two Theory white cotton tanks layered underneath (I wear two because I hate seeing the button from your jeans through the cotton – the added thickness also provides flattering snugging benefits). I love it against my crimson Rag & Bones. Bright denim is still big this fall, but you can also opt for black or darker hues like J Brand’s cherry skinny cords. Smaller holes work well too.

7 – suede wedge boots / booties - fashion meets function with a wedge heel. Petite women can get the extra height they covet, without the back and foot pain. And the rest of us can enjoy some subtle lift with an all-day-heel. I love myself some black, brown, and grey suede boots and booties.

6 – polka dot - anything! Polka dot is to fall 2011, what stripes were to spring and summer. The same could be said for stars… but I prefer a more classic print. So mix some dots into your tops, scarves, skirts, hosiery, and more. Big or small circles are everywhere. Smaller is typically more flattering, just be careful the print is clear and you aren’t channeling the chicken pox.

5 – bright outerwear - Just add water. Seriously, it’s that easy! With a bright coat, you’ve got instant color-blocking – and instant chic. Guaranteed to brighten up even the dreariest of fall / winter days… The gold metal hardware and double breasted style can’t get any better. I love “Heather Camel”, “Heather Majestic Purple”, and “Vibrant Flame” all equally. J’adore.

4 – chunky knits – Looking out the window is enough to make me cold these days. I crave all-things warm and cozy – aka, chunky knits! The chunkier, the better. Stella McCartney can do no wrong in my opinion, and while her pieces are clearly an $investment$, I can picture this scarf and I being very happy together for eternity. Or at least until spring.

3 – tweed and tartan – textures are big this season. Think tweed, tartan, hounds-tooth, pine-stripe – very British – very prep-school. The looser oversized boyfriend fits of recent years are gone, and we’re back to fitted shrunken blazers and coats (because a waist is a terrible thing to waste). Classic blackwatch (green and navy plaid) is a safe bet. The more daring may try technicolor or mustard (because I’ve never met a condiment I didn’t like).

2 – dark cords – skinny or wide-leg - the ’70s drives the wide-legged pants we’re seeing everywhere. The great news is you can dress for your body type. Skinnies, and wide-legged pants are in – pick your pleasure! Just remember, all pants are more flattering when worn with heels.

1 –bright statement pumps - a shocking suede pump lights up your outfit (and hopefully your life). Kelly Ripa shows us how to wear blue suede shoes with all-black. You can also color block your way into an opposing hued pant, top, coat, dress, skirt… most successful blocks involve two or three (MAX) colors. As the temperature drops; select darker, richer, and jewel-tones colors.

sizzling August must-haves

summer isn’t over… squeeze in all you can!  I’m coveting this watch, bag and shoes to fall into fall.

Make a statement with a bold navy face and soft rose gold bezel and strap with Michael by Michael Kors “Bel Air” wristwatch. Even the name sounds regal. Clare Vivier’s “SeeVivier La Tropézienne” tote is the perfect casual yet chic bag to tote all weekend long, in the city or at the cottage. Big enough to fit your essentials, but small enough to keep it from turning into a suitcase… And lastly, J.Crew’s MacAlister wedge booties are a current take on desert boots that offer your legs (and derrière) a flattering lift. Fashion meets function when paired with white skinny jeans, short-shorts (a wedge heel doesn’t look trashy with a short hem-line like other high heels can – the daring can rock cut-off denim Daisy Dukes!), linen pants, a sundress, or skirt. Add a silk blouse (neutral of summer 2011 bright), and you’re set!

You’re welcome.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s live singing debut at the CMAs

video c/o: YouTube “knmtexas”

So she’s a gorgeous Oscar-winning actress; she can dance (Tracy Anderson-style) and sing??!! Fair? No… impressive? YES. Please enjoy Gwyneth Paltrow’s live singing debut at the CMA awards above. Gwyneth performed wearing a Lanvin Spring 2011 black metallic ruched dress with a plunging-neck, bordeaux Brian Atwood Eastwood booties, and layered gold necklaces. Earlier on the red carpet, Gwyneth wore an Atelier Versace Fall 2010 One Shoulder beaded ombre gown with a thigh-high split and cut-out side detail, with Christian Louboutin satin peep-toes.

There’s no question… Gwyneth’s a 10 on all counts. JEALOUS.

Whether you’re a fan of Cameron’s movies or not (and I am, in a big way!!) – there’s no denying her charismatic aura and gorgeous smile. Born in California (Long Beach represents…) she’s blond, tall, and so lean that everything looks INCREDIBLE on her. And she also has killer personal style, she just keeps looking better and better. Fair? No. But thankfully we can learn from a master here.

Cameron stepped out at Hollywood’s Bardot Lounge last month wearing EmberSkye‘s black and gold clasped-clutch. The new young designer was so honored that Cameron wore her bag, she named it the “Cameron Clutch”… awe!!  Who doesn’t want to wear something with this guru‘s namesake?? While I love the clutch in black, the style also comes in a statement head-turning red suede. Both will be available for purchase this Monday, November 8th from Blue Heaven Boutique – and after seeing them up close (thanks MM: C & K), I’m telling you they are WORTH the wait!!

As always the rest of Cam’s outfit is equally perfect, from her medium-wash perfectly-cuffed boot-cut skinnies, gray suede booties, long-sleeved black extra-long T and fitted blazer (reminding us of our love for blazer styles other than the of-the-moment boyfriend and schoolboy) – it’s sexy without being an oh-too-common scantily clothed LA club girl (ahem… sorry). Cameron tops everything off for her Saturday night out with Jennifer Meyer gold bangles and Valentino red lips.

Grab a “Cameron Clutch”, some red lipstick and rock it like it’s HOT: classy-Cameron-style.

Fine, Fresh, Fierce!

Rachel Bilson is once again schooling everyone on being effortlessly chic. She blends high end and high street so seamlessly that it all looks expensive.

Rachel rolls up her Paige jeans just enough to show off her Zara wedge ankle boots with laces and she casually throws over her shoulder an amazing YSL leather hobo. The piece de resistance here is that amazing polka dot scarf by Ann Taylor. Who isn’t loving polka dots these days? The wedges and scarf provide the color and details necessary for this look so she keeps the rest simple and neutral. Rachel expertly offsets her ladylike scarf with ripped boyfriend jeans. And of course, she tops it all off with her signature Ray Ban wayfarers.

Another “What? This? I just threw it on but I look better than all of you!” Rachel Bilson moment!

I’ll admit I watch “Gossip Girl” for the killer clothes (OK, and maybe Chase Crawford, Penn Badgley and Ed Westwick…). It never disappoints with a weekly dose of Upper East Side glamor. So when Katie Cassidy joined the cast this season (coming over from the CW’s one-season-revival of the 90s “Melrose Place”), we are happy to report her wardrobe is almost all true perfection… 10′s!!

Playing Juliet Sharp, there appears to be more (or less) to this new Upper East Sider than meets the eye. We’ll let the story unfold every Monday, while we simultaneously love her style. Above, Katie’s sporting a gorgeous gray monochromatic look in an Alexander McQueen gold-zippered-dress; Alexander Wang blazer, and Ginvency pumps. Subtly offsetting her gray, is her tan Salvatore Ferragamo hobo. Gray is a celeb-fav for good reason. It wears more practically than white, and offers more softness than black. Whether you opt for an all-gray outfit, or one item: gray is great.

Looks like Nate agrees… eyes up here, close your mouth dear.
